INDEPENDENCE-Prairie Beer of Prairie Du Chien rolled
through the WI NAFA State Tournament undefeated in five games, beating
Ray's Place 11-1 in the finale. The hot bats of Jamie Greene and Greg
Slack combined for six hits, three each. Slack homered and had two
triples. Todd Schultz, who set a tournament record with 13 hits, had
two hits in the championship game.
The champs opened with a 15-1 win over Chippewa Valley
Merchants, then beat the Pine Creek Pirates 6-0 on a Larry Liegel
no-hitter, Shorty's 9-1, and Ray's Place 7-3 in the winning bracket
finals.
Ray's beat host Hotel Tap 3-0, La Crosse Lindy's Pub
5-4 in 8 innings, and the Portage Merchants 4-0 before losing the
winning bracket finals. They beat Portage 7-6 in the losing bracket
finals to reach the championship game.
The Portage Merchants finished third. Prairie Beer,
Ray's, and the Merchants eahc qualify for the NAFA Central Zone World
Series in Crystal Lake.
